Physical rehabilitation programs are integral components of post-medical/-surgical care, as the recovery of functional independence is critical to a person’s quality of life and a return to pre-fracture living conditions.3 The majority of seniors wish to remain in their homes and maintain their independence for as long as possible.4 A common goal in inpatient rehabilitation (IR) is for the client [...] Therefore, an understanding of the factors that enhance the ability of individuals to age in place can be an integral part of the post-operative management of hip fractures in Canada. [...] The average client had a Motor Function Score of 45 and a Cognitive Function Score of 30 upon admission to rehabilitation (see the sidebar for a description of Motor and Cognitive Function scores captured in the NRS). [...] The average client had surgical repair within 2 days of the initial acute admission and was admitted to IR 12 days after the date of surgery for hip fracture repair; half of clients were admitted to IR within 8 days of surgery.
