The codified conversion used in the analysis is based on the 1997 version of the NAICS classification, while the version used today for manufacturing sales is the 2012 NAICS.7 For this reason, a new conversion was created to compare the data. [...] The latter statistic shows that the importance of the United States for the Canadian manufacturing sector underwent a transformation during this period, especially during the financial crisis of 2008-2009, when exports of manufactured goods to the United States declined substantially.
