To tackle the primary objective of the Program, an assessment of the risks that climate change poses to the delivery of DFO’s mandate across the diverse aquatic ecosystems of Canada were performed. [...] This work follows two internal DFO climate change national risk assessment reports (Interis 2005, 2012) which provided a preliminary assessment of the impacts of climate change to the Department’s strategic priorities, and focused these national evaluations of risks down to the scale of each of the large aquatic basins. [...] The evaluation of risk described here addresses the whole of the large Freshwater LAB and the resulting science advice is based on the integration of information from all of the sub-basins. [...] Fisheries and Oceans Canada delivers science to support its mandate through the Great Lakes Laboratory for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (GLLFAS), the Freshwater Institute and the Environmental Science Division (ESD) of the Science Sector of the Central and Arctic Region (C&A). [...] Several of the main risk drivers, consequences, opportunities and gaps were common to Risks 1, 2 and 3. Risk drivers and consequences were considered independently and are not presented in the tables with a direct linkage between the main risk drivers listed on the left side of the table and the lists of potential consequences on the right side.
