As a result of the workshop discussions and additional exploration of KT options, the Analytic Networks’ conceptual framework for cancer surveillance will use the essential elements of the Knowledge to Action cycle (1) in their project planning and implementation. [...] The activities to be undertaken by the Analytic Networks are framed in a new The Need to Know-inspired approach (3-6), the Cancer Surveillance KT Action List: 1. New knowledge creation and development, with the ultimate users of the cancer surveillance information (the “audiences”) as partners throughout the process. [...] The application of the KT framework (1), the KT Plan Template (2) and the Action List will vary for each Analytic Network, largely based on the audiences identified and the needs of those audiences. [...] Demand for an effective cancer control program to reduce the frequency and impact of cancer resulted in the creation of the Canadian Cancer Control Strategy and ultimately, the creation of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer in 2006. [...] Early work towards the Canadian Cancer Strategy included the creation of the Analytic Framework for Cancer Control in Canada (7) (Figure 1), which emphasizes three key knowledge-generating activities – fundamental research, intervention research and surveillance and monitoring – the results of which should be synthesized to assess the utility of current cancer control interventions and to identify
