The immigration experience in Saskatchewan's labour market

15 May 2008

An important topic of the conference was the role of immigrants and Aboriginal/First Nations peoples in building the province. [...] In recent years, the source countries have changed from the European countries and now, 58.3% of newcomers arriving in Canada are from Asia and the Middle East Canada, (2008a). [...] Another goal of the program is the reunification of family members who may or may not participate in the labour market. [...] Employers need to demonstrate that they were unable to find local employees and that the entry of the foreign workers will not harm the existing Canadian labour market. [...] Of the immigrants arriving in Saskatchewan, over the past five years, about 41% are settled in Saskatoon and 32% in Regina (Canada, 2008).
