The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) refers to natural ecosystem adaptation in its ultimate objective, as well as to the parties’ commitments to take action, cooperate and help developing countries to adapt to climate change impacts. [...] Negotiations surrounding adaptation policies under the UNFCCC have focussed on addressing the needs of developing countries and the commitment of developed countries to give: full consideration to what actions are necessary under the Convention, including actions related to funding, insurance and the transfer of technology, to meet the specific needs and concerns of developing country Parties aris [...] In addition, Article 4(9) of the UNFCCC commits developed countries to “take full account of the specific needs and special situations of the least developed countries in their actions with regard to funding and transfer of technology.”. [...] Negotiations are proceeding under the UNFCCC to decide how to improve the response to climate change in the future. [...] Adaptation is a significant part of the negotiations aimed at strengthening the response to climate change up to and beyond 2012 under the auspices of the AWG-LCA.
