My own involvement with the use of the court roll in the study of the mediaeval English peasant began ten years ago, while a graduate student under the direction of Professor J. Ambrose Raftis of the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies and the Graduate Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto.
