As we oversee the implementation of the National Forest Strategy, with the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers as its trustee, we will continue to rely on the advice and efforts from the broad forest community. [...] The vision in Canada is: The long-term health of Canada’s forest will be maintained and enhanced, for the benefit of all living things, and for the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of all Canadians now and in the future. [...] Exotic and invasive species in the forest also received attention from Coalition members: • The current status and potential impact of exotic and invasive forest species on the forest resources of the Great Lakes Basin were the focus of a forum held by the Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF)—Central Ontario Section in November 2003. M a n a g e m e n t 13 • The Nova Forest Alliance: > Is working with partners to develop a guide to the ecological restoration of the Acadian Forest in Nova Scotia; > Is working with industry and government to assess the impact of forest practices on water through the Pockwock-Bowater Watershed Study; > Is assessing the effects of various riparian widths on breeding [...] For example, among many projects, the Network has made an economic analysis of the effects of wildfire and wildfire management on air quality and researched the use of natural disturbances and natural processes as a template for the sustainable management of boreal forests.
