This study evaluates the information presented to consumers when they enter a rent-to-own (lease-to-own) store and attempt to secure an agreement. It describes the results of 63 instore audits conducted across Canada, focusing on selected merchandise. The results include data about the costs to acquire merchandise through rent-to-own facilities, how those prices compare to conventional vendors, an evaluation of compliance with provincial consumer protection legislation, and the identification of practices that place unacceptable risks on consumers.
