By being better informed of the energy performance of their homes, and how to improve it, homeowners could become better equipped to understand the effect of their home on the environment and manage their energy costs and efficiency. [...] The Ontario government is currently developing options for the design of a Home Energy Rating and Disclosure (HER&D) program for Ontario as part of the Ontario Green Energy Act (GEA), with the objective to launch the program by 2019. [...] The goal of the HER&D program is to improve consumer awareness, allow a comparison of home energy ratings between homes, and to improve the energy efficiency of homes through renovations (Government of Ontario 2016).
