'The federal legislation on medical assistance in dying authorizes the Minister of Health to make regulations to support data collection and reporting on requests for, and the provision of medical assistance in dying. Health Canada expects to have these regulations in place in the fall of 2018. Until a permanent system is in place, federal, provincial and territorial governments have been working together to produce interim updates using available data. The data provided in this report, covering the period from July 1 to December 31, 2017, offers the most comprehensive profile of medical assistance in dying in Canada to-date'--Introd., p. 1.
