Ammonia (present as ammonium carbamate)

5 Dec 2016

The key objective of the Pest Control Products Act is to prevent unacceptable risks to people and the environment from the use of pest control products. [...] These methods and policies also consider the nature of the effects observed and the uncertainties when predicting the impact of pesticides. [...] Residues in Water and Food The use of Spectrum XD1878 Chlorine Stabilizer in pulp and paper industry for the production of food-contact paper can result in indirect dietary exposure to the residues of monochloramine; however, such exposure is not expected to result in an unacceptable risk when Spectrum XD1878 Chlorine Stabilizer is used according to the label directions. [...] The scientific quality of the data is acceptable and the database is sufficiently complete to define the majority of the toxic effects that may result from exposure to ammonium carbamate when used as intended as a pest control product. [...] Through chemical reactions within Proposed Registration Decision - PRD2016-35 Page 13 the treatment system, and through biological degradation during secondary treatment, the amount of monochloramine discharged into the aquatic environment through the use of the product Spectrum XD1878 Chlorine Stabilizer is expected to be below the level of detection, measured as total chlorine.
