[...] Added to this, the settlement was on the eve of a series of disturbances which shortly afterwards resulted in the destruc tion of the colony by the servants of the North-West Company. [...] James Sutherland was left in charge, and when that gentleman saw that the colony was utterly at the mercy of the Nor'Westers, be and Surgeon James White, who was afterwards killed in the Semple tragedy, signed the following agreement on June 25,1815: Articles of Agreement entered into between the Half-Breed Indians of the Indian Territory, on one part, and the Honorable Hudson's Bay Company on the [...] The result of Cameron's attack on Fort Douglas was the destruction of the settlers' hOllses, and the breaking up of the colony. [...] This first attempt to penetrate the northern districts was, however, only partly suc cessful, owing to the lateness of the season when the brigades reached their destination, and the lack of provisions, which, owing to the opposition of the North-West Company, the new comers had diffi~ulty in obtaining frpm the Indians.
