Fourteen year-old Ted MacIntosh is tormented by nightmares of James Barry, a murderer he helped to convict and hang. To distract hiimself from these troubling dreams, Ted apprentices to an eccentric doctor named J.B. Wilkinson, and as their friendship progresses, he discovers that the doctor is battling dreams and demons of his own. When J.B. and Ted must tend to an outcast Chinese man on his deathbed, the ghosts from both their pasts return.
