Cree SRO and English Translation In the second section of this volume, the stories are given in both the Cree Standard Roman Orthography (SRO) and English translation on facing pages for ease of reference for language learners [...] The second modification which will be evident in the pres- entation of these texts is the special marking used in the Plains and Swampy Cree texts for the "y" and "n" sounds respectively. [...] On occasion, however, some such hes- itations were felt to be integral to the text itself and, especial- ly in the case of the stories told by Elders, attempts were then made to represent the text in a form as close as possible to the spoken original.
