THE THEORY OF PAPAL MONARCHY IN THE FOURTEENTH CENTURY : THE TRACTATUS DE CAUSA IMMEDIATA ECCLESIASTICEPOTESTATIS OF GUILLAUME DE PlERRE GODIN, OP edited by Wm. [...] Judging from the surviving manuscripts, it assumed particular importance in the fifteenth century, during the conciliar controversy, when the subject of the constitution of the church became an object of sustained debate. [...] The text is preceded by an introduction which discusses the problem of authorship and the date of the treatise. [...] The introduction also contains a description of the extant manuscripts, and a discussion of the lines of filiation among the manuscripts and the principles governing the edition of the text. [...] The discussion of authorship, which also serves as an introduction to the treatise itself, supports the argument that the De causa should be attributed to Guillaume de Pierre Godin rather than Pierre de la Palu, to whom it has often been ascribed.
