When we consider the inflow and outflow of graduates in the province, Nova Scotia has a net retention rate26 of 89%, the highest of the three Maritime provinces and similar to the net retention rate for the Class of 1999 in 2001 (88%). [...] When we consider the inflow and outflow of graduates in the province, New Brunswick has a net retention rate27 of 86%; the greatest increase of the three provinces over the rate for the Class of 1999 in 2001 (82%). [...] Two Years On: A Survey of Class 2003 Maritime University Graduates 13 When we count together the inflow and outflow of first-degree holders in the Maritimes, the net retention28 for the region is 83%, essentially the same as that for the Class of 1999 in 2001 (81%). [...] This is consistent with findings for the Class of 1999 in 2001, and indeed, across the Classes, the gap between the two groups has grown, from 27 to 35 percentage points.36 36 In the Class of 1999 in 2001, 69% of first-degree holders in the Liberal Arts & Sciences and 42% of those in Applied/Professional programs pursued post-2001 studies. [...] As was explained earlier in the report, the analysis of first-degree holders provides greater insight into the career paths of Class of 2003 graduates, since the separation of this group allows us to examine the career paths of a relatively homogenous group of graduates.
