[...] This paper serves to outline the BC pulp and paper industry in context with the development of BC’s carbon reduction initiative and the new BC carbon cap and trade system. [...] The sector faces challenges due to the rapid appreciation of the Canadian dollar, the Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic, the melt down of the US housing market, and the extraordinary increase in the cost of energy and chemicals.
