However, we assume that these characteristics are attributed to the product by the consumer as a result of the set of standards that govern the production of organic food. [...] We allow the profiles of the organic Red Delicious apple to vary according to the standards used to define organic and price. [...] The standards assumed to define organic include those that govern the testing of pesticide residue, the location of product origin, and the agencies responsible for setting and monitoring organic production standards. [...] The four standards governing organic production in this study (how frequently an apple is tested for the presence of synthetic pesticide residues; where an apple can be grown; the organization responsible for setting the organic standard; and the organization responsible for monitoring whether farmers are following the organic standards) were then listed to alert respondents to these key attribute [...] The two exceptions to statistically significance are the part-worth utilities for the farmer organization setting the standard and when the provincial government monitors the standard.
