"For this paper, research and professional publications related to child development screening and assessment have been reviewed. Literature has been selected and summarized that examine: 1) some of the types of screening and assessment tools widely used; 2) the purpose and effectiveness of the tools and assessment processes as described by specialists in the area of screening and assessment; and 3) issues and insights related to the screening and assessment processes generally as well those with an emphasis on the importance of cultural contexts of assessment. It should be noted that the literature reviewed for the purpose of this report do not represent an exhaustive list of researchers or their work.
