Kiskisik Awasisak : Remember the children

3 Mar 2012

Kiskisik Awasisak is the first report of the First Nations Component of the Canadian Incidence Study of Reported Child Abuse and Neglect 2008 (FNCIS-2008). The FNCIS-2008 is a study of child welfare investigations involving First Nations children which is embedded within a larger, cyclical national study of the reported incidence of child maltreatment: the Canadian Incidence Study of Reported Child Abuse and Neglect (CIS). The CIS-2008 combines a core national study, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada, with five provincially-funded studies: Québec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia; the study also received additional support from the province of Manitoba. The CIS uses standardized data collection instruments and procedures designed to determine the rates and characteristics of maltreatment related investigations for the population as a whole.
