[...] MST is an intensive home-based service that involves the family as well as the other groups that have an influence on the young person, including the school, the peer group, and the neighbourhood. [...] The Boston Gun Project One of the best examples of the use of the strategy of targeted deterrence is the gang 4 violence reduction program called the Boston Gun Project. [...] A project in the Hollenbeck neighbourhood of Los Angeles lacked the prevention and intervention elements of some of the other programs because of implementation issues, but still led to modestly greater reductions in gang crimes and gun crimes in program areas than in control areas, while violent crime rates declined at the same rate in both program and control areas (Tita, et al, 2003).
