In this document, the Standing Senate Human Rights Committee examines the current state of sport and recreation for persons with disabilities in the context of Canada's human rights obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As a signatory to the Convention, Canada recognizes the rights of persons with disabilities to participate in sport, recreational and leisure activities. And yet, over the course of its study, the Committee learned that it can be very difficult for persons with disabilities to participate in these activities, indicating that we have not yet achieved the full recognition of this right.
