[...] Conclusion/Outcome Work on this project resulted in the submission of a safety leadership pilot project operating grant submission to WorkSafeBC in February, 2009 (Implementation and Evaluation of a Leadership Development Program to Improve Safety Climate and Safety System Performance). [...] Safety climate is related to safety culture and our research group has evidence that supports the idea that routine monitoring of safety climate and its use at various levels of the organization is a practical advance in the safety management field. [...] This review highlights the importance of new approaches in OHS, the validity and reliability of safety climate as a leading indicator, and in linking safety climate measurement with safety leadership training and development as a means of improving occupational health and safety. [...] If safety is a priority for the leader, transformational leadership is expected to increase the level and strength of safety climate in the work group (level referring to the overall rating of safety climate and strength the degree of within-group agreement in perceptions of safety climate) (Zohar, 2002).
