In late January 2011, reports emerged of a mass killing of approximately 100 sled dogs by an employee of an outdoor adventure tourism operator in the province. In response to the reported mass killing, former Premier Gordon Campbell announced the creation of a dedicated provincial Sled Dog Task Force on February 2, 2011.
