Recommendations: It is recommended that: (1) this report be forwarded to the Prime Minister of Canada, the Federal Minister of Finance, the President of the Treasury Board and the Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation with a request to provide sufficient funding to administer and maintain the social housing stock in the City of Toronto and that federal funding for social [...] It discusses the history and profile of social housing and the main issues that form the basis of the social housing “legacy”. [...] In addition to the existing sector organizations, the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association and the Co-operative Housing Federation, the provincially mandated Social Housing Services Corporation and the Service Manager’s Housing Network have begun to take on a larger role. [...] The City’s Social Housing Responsibilities and Interests: The Social Housing Reform Act sets out a number of responsibilities that the City has to the Province, as follows: - administering housing programs according to criteria identified in the Social Housing Reform Act. [...] If the City is in breach of any section of the Social Housing Reform Act, the Province as the agent for the federal programs under the 1999 Canada-Ontario agreement retains the right to withhold federal funding.
