The results of this study found that many of the participants struggled with the definition of mentoring and the report highlights the importance of situating the development and decision making for mentoring projects within the aboriginal community, including Elders who retain cultural teachings in mentor program development and evaluation processes, developing cultural awareness as a core compon [...] The literature review introduces the concept of mentoring and outlines the definition of mentoring and approaches to the mentoring relationship. [...] The final section of the report outlines the limitations to the study as well as the summary of the report and the recommendations made regarding Aboriginal mentoring and the potential for developing this type of program. [...] The goal of the SHR mentoring project is to support the bigger goals of a representative workforce and to enhance connections to the Saskatoon Aboriginal community. [...] To conclude, the literature highlights the differences between Western and Aboriginal mentoring, with the West’s ideology of mentoring focusing on the success of the individual and Aboriginal people’s focus on the relational and communitarian.
