Identity, community and resilience

1 May 2007

This final report speaks to the various phases of the project, beginning with a description of the research problem and followed by initial conversations between the two co-investigators and the agency representatives and Elders who formed the research advisory committee. [...] Goals and objectives jointly agreed to by the Advisory committee and the co- investigators are presented, along with descriptions of the four participant communities, and the composition of the four ‘gatherings’ that occurred in each community (Elders, Service Providers, Interested Community Members, and Youth). [...] Final sections of the report discuss the meaning of the findings from the perspective of the goals and objectives of the project as well as relevant literature; policy implications distilled from this discussion; and evaluation of the research process by members of the advisory group. [...] The project seeks to identify the teachings (values) emphasized in the communities as integral to the growth and development of children and youth and the health and prosperity of the community. [...] In the fall of 2004, members of the Consortium were invited to join with the Centre of Excellence for Child Welfare (CECW), located in the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, in carrying out research projects of importance to the prairie region.
