Health indicators 2009 : Indicateurs de santé 2009

We conduct surveys of Canadians and collect administrative data to understand the status of the nation’s health, characteristics and behaviours that promote health or place Canadians at risk of ill health, interactions of Canadians with the health system, direct measures of health, dynamics of health over time and health outcomes. [...] To gain a better understanding of the types of indicators to develop and report, CIHI convened the First Consensus Conference on Population Health Indicators in 1999, in cooperation with the Federal/ Provincial/Territorial Advisory Committees on Population Health and Health Services, Health Canada and Statistics Canada. [...] This year, three health policy, manage the health care system, new indicators are presented: the acute enhance our understanding of the broader myocardial infarction event rate; the determinants of health, as well as to identify stroke event rate; and the hip fracture gaps in health status and outcomes event rate. [...] As in previous years, Health Indicators 2009 presents the most recently available information about the health system and the health of the population in Canada’s health regions, provinces and territories. [...] The rate of hospitalized AMI events provides an estimate of the incidence of heart attacks in the community.
