Public health relates to the health of entire populations, from health promotion to health protection, disease and injury prevention, health assessment and surveillance. [...] The report is timely given the national focus that the federal government has placed on public health over the past three years—particularly with the creation of a Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) followed by a series of initial investments intended to build capacity to anticipate and respond to the public health needs of the country. [...] In the context of accelerating work on a pan-Canadian Public Health Strategy, in Two thirds of ACAHO members surveyed were September 2004, the First Ministers committed to “improving the health status of familiar with the Canadians through a collaborative process.” First Ministers directed Provincial “Health Goals for Ministers of Health to take the lead on developing health goals for Canada. [...] In many tangible ways, Understanding that improving the health of Canadians will require the participation and members of ACAHO collaboration of individuals, groups, organizations and employers, the consultation from coast to coast have phase of the goals initiative included roundtables with public health stakeholders, developed and implemented a series of experts and ordinary citizens in each pro [...] Many new and innovative public health initiatives originate in Teaching Hospitals and Many new and Regional Health Authorities across the country, where the next generation of health innovative public health professionals are trained and world class, leading-edge research and the delivery of initiatives originate in specialized health services takes place.
