NCCHPP 8 Canadian Round Table on Health Impact Assessment (HIA): Report This way, according to observers of the field, over the years and with the consolidation of regulatory mechanisms that govern the launching and application of EIA, the practice tends to stray from the original ideal – the preservation of the physical environment – becoming instead a technocratic mechanism. [...] Close proximity between the decision makers allows both a good understanding of the various dimensions of the decision and provides a level of public health information appropriate to the context and the nature of the project at the right moment, thus maximizing the potential for influence.
