CAAN faces the challenges created by HIV/AIDS in a spirit of wholeness and healing that promotes empowerment, inclusion, and honours the cultural traditions, uniqueness and diversity of all First Nations, Inuit and Métis people regardless of where they reside. [...] Th e primary goal of this study is to document the extent to which service needs of APHAs are being met, and to identify defi ciencies in the provision of those services. [...] Finally, APHAs speak eloquently of their emotional, mental and spiritual needs that, together with the need for treatment of their physical condition, call for holistic support programs and services that aim toward overall health and wellness in the context of living daily with HIV/AIDS. [...] Th is disproportional representation is the result of a myriad of social, economic and behavioural factors (eg., high rates of povessssssrty, substance use, sexually transmitted diseases, and limited access to or use of health care services) compounded by historical and cultural factors. [...] STUDY OBJECTIVES Th e primary goal of the study is to determine which services and programs currently address and fulfi ll the needs of Canadian Aboriginal people living with HIV/AIDS.
