Report of the CLC Task Force on Power Generation March 2007 Terms of Reference At the June 2005 CLC Convention, delegates passed a resolution calling on the Congress to establish a task force on power generation to develop a comprehensive policy on the role of coal-generated and nuclear power in Canada's energy future. [...] The Task Force will need to consider the impact of all power generation technologies on Canada's current and future energy needs, the role of conservation and identify potential legislative initiatives. [...] Power systems vary greatly from province to province in terms of the mix of power generation sources and the extent of public ownership and regulation. [...] The distinct qualities of the provinces in terms of weather, geography, geology, and energy sources greatly determine the quantity of energy consumption. [...] Government policy, investment, and the signals sent to private industry could create tens of thousands of new jobs in activities from housing retrofits and industrial process retrofits, to the development and production of energy-efficient cars, appliances, and machinery, to the development of new forms of energy production, such as wind and solar power.
