[...] Even so, the report concluded with the urgent message that the effects of deferred maintenance “threatens the ability of higher education’s facilities to support college and university missions. [...] Funding under FRP is allocated for repairs to the fabric and structure of buildings; repairs to building service equipment and any of their electrical or mechanical systems and built-in general academic support equipment; alterations and renovations to existing space to improve the condition and efficiency of teaching and research functions; improvements to remove accessibility barriers to persons [...] The longer these repairs are delayed, the faster the accumulated costs grow and the greater the risk of further deterioration of the teaching and research environment.
