The overarching goal of the HTA Unit of the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR)1 is to “produce and disseminate objective, timely, relevant, accurate, scientific evidence on the safety, efficacy, effectiveness (clinical and economic) of health technologies to support health care decisions and policy making.” To assess the impact of the products produced by the HTA Unit, Howard [...] Goals of the Impact Analysis The goals of the impact analysis were to • Inform the HTA Unit’s activities, future planning and continuous improvement opportunities, • Inform the HTA Unit’s Annual Report, and • Inform the evaluation of the Alberta Health Research Collaboration (of which HTA is one component) and the Foundation’s 2004 International Board of Review. [...] The analysis took the form of semi-structured interviews with the original requesters of the products and individuals who approached the Unit during the development of the products with similar requests. [...] The consultant met with the interviewees and documented, described, and analyzed the utilization of the HTA product in relation to the question that was being asked. [...] However, in one instance the client felt that the Unit “missed the mark” and was consequently unable to use the report or distribute the product for use by others.
