In the 1970s it was marijuana, and in the 1980s the use of methamphetamines (particularly the locally known "philopone") rapidly increased and remains the major drug.3) From the end of the 1960s, methamphetamines produced with advanced technology in Korea were mainly smuggled out to foreign countries.
