The lightning talks focused medium enterprises, and large-scale on a number of timely topics related to gender operations equality and mining, including: the impact of 1 mining activities on Inuit women in Canada’s KEYNOTE PRESENTATION Arctic; the role of local communities in designing and executing data gathering on mining and Dr. [...] She highlighted issues of gender inequality in Uganda’s ASM sector, ranging from power The Q+A portion explored the opportunities hierarchies in how mining sites are supervised and challenges of centring a female Indigenous to the importance of understanding the division perspective in research and how organizations, of labour and how this impacts women’s health, as well as communities, can shape [...] Discussions for women and men, and the mining sector’s also explored entrenching accountability impact on sexual and gender-based violence mechanisms within mining operations and against women and girls. [...] Specifically, she noted the opportunities Professor Doris Buss, Department of Law and the sector brought to the community as well Legal Studies at Carleton University, opened as the problems to mitigate, which include the event by sharing a story about a woman in increased alcohol use and workplace violence, Kenya’s mining sector and the importance of including those experienced by Inuit women ach [...] Cooper stressed the need to build an evidence base of best practices Matthew Bliss, Deputy Director, IGF, welcomed and challenges, foster an inclusive culture, and participants and thanked the panellists and communicate and recognize progress within partners for their involvement in the event.
