'Post-secondary education (PSE) provides both individual and societal benefits and is becoming a baseline requirement for success in the labour market. However, certain groups, such as youth and young adults from low-income families, face challenges with accessing and persisting in PSE. Recent research by Statistics Canada (2017) indicates that only 47 percent of Canadian 19-year-olds in the lowest income quintile were enrolled in PSE, compared to 79 percent in the highest income quintile'--Executive summary, page 1.
