The dairy trade liberalization that Canada agreed to under TPP should be the beginning and the NAFTA renegotiations are an opportunity for Canada to step up and do the right thing with respect to international trade in dairy while giving the Americans something they want in the negotiations. [...] Notably, the 1994 NAFTA between Canada, the United States and Mexico, the TPP between Canada and several other large economies in the Pacific region, and the 2016 Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union. [...] We show that the dairy industry in these countries benefited from dairy trade liberalization and examine the impact of the restrictive trade policy on the Canadian dairy industry and consumer.
