Ontario’s October unemployment rate has hit an eight-year low of 6.4 per cent (down from a peak of 9.6 per cent in June 2009), below the average in the rest of the country of 7.4 per cent,9 and the government projects that the rate will decline to 6.2 per cent by 2019.10 Figure 1 shows the trend in the unemployment rate since 1976.
