This has become clear as Asia’s transformation—the resurgence of China, the growth of India, the maturation of Japan and Korea, and developments within the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) region—provides new opportunities as well as challenges for its people and for the rest of the world. [...] The Board of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada firmly believes it is of utmost importance for the Government of Canada to strengthen its partnerships and deepen its engagement with Asia. [...] We strongly encourage Prime Minister Trudeau and his government to develop a constructive and sustainable Asia strategy—one that takes into account the diversity of the region and is able to accommodate a degree of uncertainty and short-term volatility associated with emerging economies and changing polities.
